The minor girl from Unnao got raped by a BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar. On last year’s 8th April, the victim attempted suicide by setting herself on fire outside Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence. This incident brought light to the fight for justice for the girl, who accused the influential MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar of raping her in 2017.
The case moved from UP Police to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and its charge sheet was filed before a special CBI court in July last year. But the trial has not begun yet as the court has no judge after the last judge was transferred in April this year.
Over the past year, the girl has lost her father to an assault allegedly by Kuldeep Singh Sengar’s supporters. She also lost two of her aunts in an accident on Sunday, when a truck hit the car they were traveling in. Her lawyer is also critical. The girl’s uncle was jailed in a criminal case. According to the complainant, she was raped on two occasions — April 4 and April 11 — in 2017. In the first incident, she named Kuldeep Singh Sengar as the accused. In the second incident, she alleged that she was abducted and taken to Sengar’s house where she was gang-raped. The police asked the victim’s family not to file a case but the girl’s family, however, lodged the case.
Now, the CBI has registered a case of murder against Kuldeep Singh Sengar and 10 others in connection with the accident deaths after the girl’s family alleged “conspiracy” by the suspended BJP MLA.
