2019 Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival has honoured Zoya Akhtar directorial Gully Boy as The Asian Film of the Year recently.
BIFAN is a prestigious international film festival hosted by South Korea every year where films of different genres like drama, comedy and fantasy from all over the world are showcased. This year, in 23rd Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, Zoya Akhtar directorial Gully Boy has been awarded with The Best Asian Film of the Year tag which is indeed a proud moment for the Indian film fraternity.
In Zoya’s own words, “When we make films we hope as many people see them. We hope the story travels far and wide because in doing so it only makes the world smaller. We see the differences. We experience cultures unlike ours and understanding these differences bring us closer. We see similarities, we see the common ground of humanity and we recognise our own spirit in another which also brings us closer. To have Gully Boy recognised by BIFAN and by NETPAC is such a tremendous honour. One me and my crew will always be grateful for.”
Zoya, who is always up to experimenting with her subjects on the screen, has undoubtedly hit the bull’s eye with her latest release. The overwhelming response of the audience and the critics’ acclamation are surely the proof of that.
Now, Gully Boy’s selection as The Best Asian Film of the Year has definitely added a feather in the cap of the Indian film industry. With the above context, the talent volcano of B-Town, Zoya Akhtar had also received an honorary invitation by the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences to become its voters along with Anurag Kashyap and Anupam Kher a few days back.
